As a longtime homeschool mom living in a remote location for the past 11 years, I know how hard it can be to find homeschool extracurricular activities and instruction for families. The search for homeschool dance programs has been a challenge. So, I was thrilled to discover the YouDance homeschool dance curriculum, which offers a solution that fits our family’s needs.

Read on to learn more about our experience with the YouDance online dance education platform, which we tested over three weeks with my daughters, ages 14 and 11.

YouDance Homeschool Dance Curriculum

I’ve been homeschooling and working from home for the past eleven years. Between multiple cross-country moves, living in a remote area, and ongoing health issues with one of our children, homeschooling has been a godsend.

While I was fortunate to find an amazing Christian homeschool curriculum, Sonlight, early on in our journey, it’s been more challenging to find good homeschool extracurricular activities. Last year we discovered Throga voice lessons, which was a good fit for my older daughter. And for many years we enjoyed our Music in Our Homeschool membership.

But this year, I wanted to focus on dance, especially for my 14-year-old daughter who lives with Juvenile Arthritis. Gentle movement and stretching help alleviate her joint pains.

In our search for a flexible homeschool dance program, we discovered YouDance, an online dance education platform offering a variety of dance styles.

Designed for all ages and skill levels, it provides ad-free, family-friendly content. And with pre-recorded lectures and lessons, it’s easy to fit into each child’s homeschool schedule.

The girls and I looked through the various courses offered, and each picked one course to try.

Safe and Wholesome Environment

Over the years, our girls have participated in real-life dance lessons at local studios. While I admired the dedication and kindness of the teachers, our family felt a bit uncomfortable with some of the costume and music choices for the end-of-year dance performances. That’s just one reason we started looking at online dance activities for children.

YouDance homeschool dance curriculum really stood out to me for its commitment to a safe and wholesome environment. I love that the ad-free platform ensures that children don’t get exposed to inappropriate content.

Plus, the family-friendly educational dance videos are designed to be engaging and fun, so they’re a good solution for quality extracurricular activities without leaving home. We also like the variety of dance styles available.

On-Demand Dance Lessons for Families

One of YouDance.com’s biggest advantages is the flexibility of on-demand dance lessons. This feature lets me fit dance sessions into my busy working homeschooling mom schedule without any hassle. Plus the new app is easy to use on a tablet, making it accessible for my daughters to navigate independently.

Physical Education in Our Homeschool

Getting intentional about adding movement to our homeschool routine has become more important as the girls get older. When they were younger, they ran outside to play no matter the weather. But now, as middle school and high school students, the battle to get them off their screens is real!

So, I have to schedule physical activity into our days. Plus, we live in the subarctic region of Canada, where we sometimes have as much as eight months of cold weather. So, an indoor activity like dance works well.

Working through the lessons on YouDance has improved my daughters’ focus, and mental health and physical health. It gives them a nice break from their homeschool curriculum work.

Dance at home also fosters creativity and builds confidence. Here’s what we noticed during our three-week trial:

Improved Focus and Cheerful Attitude: After their dance sessions, my daughters were more attentive during other homeschool activities. And they couldn’t wait to show me their “new moves!”

Physical Health: Regular movement kept them active and fit.

Creativity and Confidence:  Exploring different dance styles boosted their self-esteem and creative expression.

Our Family’s Experience with YouDance

As I mentioned, we used the YouDance homeschool dance curriculum for three weeks this summer with my 14-year-old and 11-year-old daughters. My 14-year-old, who has had six years of ballet instruction, and my 11-year-old, who has experience in hip hop, acro, and ballet, both found the lessons engaging and appropriately challenging.

Plus, the app’s user-friendly design made it easy for them to select and follow along with the classes on their iPads.

Jazz Course Experience

My 11-year-old decided to try the Jazz Course, Beginner 2, which is a 12-week program. The first week started with a lecture and a quiz, which she found interesting and engaging.

Since we were doing the lessons daily, we continued right on with the second week of classes. She particularly enjoyed learning the “Figure 8 hips” and “shimmy” movements.

We watched the lesson and then followed the practice example each day. She loved the experience and looked forward to each session, practicing diligently and showing off her new skills.

Easy-to-Use YouDance App

The new YouDance app is straightforward and intuitive, especially on tablets. My daughters had no issues navigating the platform and choosing their preferred lessons.

As a busy mom, I love educational resources that my children can manage independently.
