I’ve been looking for fast, fun Valentine’s Day activities for kids. So when I heard about this simple three-ingredient recipe for air fryer cherry hand pies, I knew it would be a simple Valentine baking treat. And it makes a great dessert after a fast air fryer cheeseburger dinner!

These heart-shaped air fryer cherry hand pies are super easy to make with just three ingredients – and an air fryer. Wondering where hand pies got their name? I was.

As it turns out, it’s exactly what you expected. A hand pie is simply a pie that fits in your hand.

How to Make Heart-Shaped Cherry Hand Pies

Try this simple baking project with your kids as part of your hands-on homeschool day. Or when you’re ready for a break from your regular homeschool curriculum.

We tend to bake on Fridays right after lunch so we can enjoy a treat with during our weekly poetry tea time.

Ingredients/Materials Needed:

Heart shaped cookie cutters, air fryer, spatula, egg in a bowl and a bowl of cherry pie filling on a counter
  • air fryer
  • heart-shaped medium/large cookie cutters (Try these ones)
  • rolling pin
  • pre-made pie crusts
  • 1 5-ounce can of cherry pie filling
  • 1 egg

Instructions:

Roll out the pie crust.

Use the heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the hearts.

Place a half-spoonful of cherry pie filling in the middle of half of your pastry hearts.

Place the remaining hearts on top of the cherry-pie-filled hearts. Use a fork to squeeze them together.

Use an egg wash on each heart-shaped cherry hand pie.

Place in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Serve and enjoy

Tip: Let them cool for a good 10 minutes before eating. The filling will be HOT!

Cook Time: 12 minutes
Additional Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 34 minutes

These air fryer heart-shaped cherry hand pies are fast, fun, and perfect for Valentine's Day!

Ingredients

  • 1 5 ounce can of cherry pie filling
  • 1 egg
  • 1 premade pastry shell

Instructions

    1. Roll out the pie crust and use heart shaped cookie cutters to cut out hearts
    2. Take a half a spoonful of cherry pie filling and place it in the middle of half of your hearts.
    3. Place the remaining hearts on top of the Cherry topped hearts and use a fork to squeeze together.
    4. Egg wash each cherry pie.
    5. Place in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees.
    6. Serve & enjoy.
